About Gideon

He that designs for this world …

Ways of Working

I employ the design thinking method and work using a dynamic shared ownership model, where I am responsible for the product process from start to finish, focusing on outcomes on a high level and tasks and output on a lower level to ensure business goals are realised. In research, I use qualitative and quantitative user research methods to provide real user information to inform business decisions and design.

My deliverables include:

  • User research reports

  • User personas;

  • User journey maps;

  • “How might we” statements

  • Wireframes;

  • High-fidelity, pixel-perfect mock-ups and prototypes;

  • Usability reports;

  • Heuristic evaluation reports;

  • User testing reports; and

  • Design pattern libraries, style guides or design systems.

Education

I have a bachelor's degree in anthropology, a master's degree in international business, and a PHD (in view) in management and quality science. Additionally, I have multiple certifications on the interaction design foundation, a UX designer by Google, have completed professional design training at Nielsen Norman, and a Usability Engineer (Human Factors) by Medical Device HQ. I currently write as a guest author on the UX Collective, one of the biggest UX blogs in the world.

Work and Skill Assessment

I started designing more than 10 years ago, when I interned as a graphic designer at a local digital studio right out of high school. After getting into college, I learned web design, discovered the importance of UX for conversions, and then stuck with it for 7 years till date. Since then, I have worked as a freelancer, as a contractor, and under employment for a lot of organisations. When I was a freelancer on Upwork, I had great ratings and was ranked top-rated within a short period of time.

The organisations I have worked for spread across different industries, but a lot of them were focused on the Web3 and medical design spaces. These industries posed the most challenge as they were new and technical industries, respectively. In fact, highlights of my work in these industries are:

Designing the first gaming decentralised application on the EOS blockchain in 2017, designing and performing usability engineering evaluations for one of the biggest manufacturers of devices for bio-sample analysis. I have also designed for organisations in Farmtech, Hospitality, Data and artificial Intelligence and SAAS industries. You can find the work I did in projects.

In terms of Skill Assessment, I am skilled in Product Design and Usability Engineering; I have been trained and certified in both. The image below is a high-level overview of my skills:
